Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer will primarily focus on project work for clients, ensuring the successful implementation, upgrade, and integration of systems. This role requires strong cloud architecture skills to manage our Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and Azure environments to ensure server availability, infrastructure reliability, backup, patching, and data protection meet industry best practices and standards.


Additionally, this role will help establish best-in-class processes and mentor other teams and support personnel, both internally and for clients. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work alone with guidance from the Senior Systems Engineer as well as collaboratively with clients and internal teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Recommend, document, implement, execute & measure support processes and tools
2. Recent experience with techniques and procedures to identify, analyze & mitigate malware threats
3. Coordinate implementation & support efforts between 5Q Support Operations and Third Parties
4. Identify automation opportunities and implement solutions in deployment, monitoring, resiliency, telemetry, backups & restore, patching and more
5. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
6. Perform server upgrades, integration, rebuilds and other projects
7. Accountable for Backup, Patching, Recovering (RTO, RPO) planning, execution, and maintenance
8. Hyper-V virtualization, operations, networking, and troubleshooting
9. Understand and can update and develop scripting and data querying tools
10. Software and hardware installation, configuration, integration & support
11. Mentor team members, evaluating better ways to resolve issues, enhance tools & processes Including tools that facilitate deployment & decommissioning of infrastructure hardware at scale
12. Identify issues and analyze trends and systemic issues for appropriate corrective action(s), displaying effective communication when something is identified
13. Assist with process improvements and inform best practices in data center operations
14. Be the go-to server hardware technical resource for 5Q Partners
15. Understanding of MSP organizational structure and capability to work with cross-functional teams
16. Strong presentation and documentation skills. Very strong Visio knowledge.
17. San Storage Integration with Hyper=V
18. SharePoint Migrations and permissions hierarchy of the Platform
19. Experience performing e-mail migrations using multiple tools


Required Knowledge and Skills:
 

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

1. 10+ years of Systems Engineer experience
2. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Exchange Online
3. 5+ years of PowerShell Scripting
4. Microsoft Windows Server (Ver. 2008 and beyond.)
5. 10+ years working with Microsoft centric environments (Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, etc.)
6. Experience with various system management tools like SCCM, vCenter, FCM.
7. Prefer bachelor's degree with major coursework related to Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
8. Ability to learn and support new technologies
9. Requires sound interpersonal skills
10. Experience presenting ideas, plans and walking through deliverables with a client
11. Passion for and commitment to customer satisfaction

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

1. Ability to use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data.
2. Must have good eyesight to view computer monitor and phone.
3. Lifting and/or carrying of 15-30 lbs. or more.
4. Willing to travel <20%
